About ShetlandOrganics Community Interest Company

Formed in August 2001, the Shetland Organic Producers' Group was set up to promote the organic movement in Shetland, and introduce people to the benefits of using local organic products.

With a desire to form a trading arm, the membership decided on a social enterprise, and thus ShetlandOrganics CIC was registered with Company House in November 2008.

The majority of the current membership are crofters and farmers involved in the production of sheep and cattle. Other members are engaged in organic trout and salmon production and processing, and organic meat processing.

Among the aims of the Company are:

  • to promote the production and marketing of existing Shetland organic produce
  • to promote the further development of organic production in Shetland
  • to gather experience and resources from within the membership
  • to generally provide assistance to members
  • to provide regular communication between membership.

There are also associate members who are interested in furthering the aims of the Group.
